AMP Global Strategies' EAGL Technology Gunshot Detection Test in Collaboration with the University of Montana's Police Department
Introduction:
AMP Global Strategies, a leader in security technology and solutions, recognized the need to test the efficacy of gunshot detection systems in such high-noise environments. They partnered with the University of Montana’s Police Department to conduct a groundbreaking experiment to assess the performance of EAGL Technology’s outdoor DragonFly gunshot detection system under such conditions.
Objective:
- The primary objectives of this test were:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of DragonFly gunshot detection sensors in a high-noise environment, such as the Washington Grizzly Stadium during live football games.
- To demonstrate the advantages of kinetic energy-based gunshot detection sensors in environments where microphone-based solutions may be impractical.
- To assess the versatility of DragonFly sensors by testing their ability to differentiate between gunshot events and known loud events, such as the firing of a touchdown cannon and even natural occurrences like thunder.
Methodology:
- To achieve the objectives, the following methodologies were implemented:
- Sensor Deployment: AMP Global Strategies deployed DragonFly gunshot detection sensors at strategic locations near and within the Washington Grizzly Stadium. A key deployment location was in proximity to the stadium, ensuring optimal coverage.
- Sound Profile Analysis: Sound profiles of live football games were analyzed to determine the typical decibel levels, including spikes caused by crowd noise, the cannon fire after touchdowns, and ambient noise.
- Live Testing: During the 2023 football season, DragonFly sensors were put to the test in real-world conditions. The sensors were continuously monitored for gunshot detection accuracy, false alarms, and response times.
Findings:
The collaborative test between AMP Global Strategies, EAGL Technology and the University of Montana’s Police Department showcased the effectiveness of EAGL Technology’s outdoor DragonFly gunshot detection system in a high-noise stadium environment. The system’s accurate gunshot detection, low false alarm rate, rapid response times, and versatility make it a valuable addition to security infrastructure in similar settings.
In light of these findings, AMP Global Strategies and EAGL Technology recommend the consideration and deployment of DragonFly gunshot detection systems in stadiums, educational institutions, and other environments with high ambient noise levels,
